History

1922 - THE BUS EMPLOYEES LEGAL AID AND BENEVOLENT FUND was originally set up as two seperate funds, by Midland Red bus drivers to support their collegues through financial difficulties, due to illness or bereavment.

The legal side was there to support drivers who were summoned before a court of law.

1980's - the Benevolent fund was based in Birmingham at Carlyle works, and legal aid at Bristol, both had seperate committies. In the mid 80's the break up of Midland Red due to privatisation meant the two funds were still run separately whilst administered together.

1989 - the two funds were joined and have since gone from strength to strength, whilst its own personal banker overseas shares and investments as well as a resident solicitor for all legal requirments.

The peace of mind that the fund is now able to offer can only be attributed to the central commitee members over the years making excellent business decisions but also sound judgements.
